Ask the loaded question "Would your wife be ok with me riding (just riding) in your truck?"

Doesn't matter if he says, "She's ok with it" or "Yeah, ok, I probably shouldn't" or "I don't have a wife, just a girlfriend" ... you would have the information you need.
